About the event
In this clinic we focus on how to train and develop horses for mounted archery. Whether you do it for fun or for competition, your horse's training is paramount for your ability to focus on shooting arrows. We start from the ground up, getting horses used to the sights and sounds of tracks, bows and arrows.
Our ideal archery horse can run a straight track off voice commands, navigate the hunt course off leg, seat and voice, and can stay calm during the long hours around the archery grounds. We also develop an exercise program to keep the horses fit and supple for the long days of riding.
Arrive with your horse at 10am Saturday morning:
We will start with a brief powwow and check-in.
10:30a we will bring horses to the arena to start sensitizing and ground training.
12:00p break for lunch and chat
12:45p saddle horses up and meet at the track. The remainder of the afternoon will be spent taking horses down the track and teaching them how to rate speed, develop voice commands and acclimate to sights and sounds of tents, music, other horses and more.
We typically finish around 3:30-4pm.
Please bring hay for your horses, buckets for water (we do have water available from a spigot) and any horse archery gear you might have.
Lunch will be provided.
